• HIGH RESOLUTION LASER SCAN AND MODEL CREATION

    SCAN TO BIM

Case Studies

BIM.Technologies were commissioned to undertake a HD laser scan at Newlands School, a Grade II listed building in Hull.

This was part of a refurbishment and architectural project and the data from the scan was used to produce an 'as built' model of the existing school buildings using Autodesk Revit 2012. The purpose of the survey was to enable the architects to integrate the model of the existing building into their BIM workflow, therefore utilising the existing model for proposed designs as well as to produce schedules for replacement and repair. It was therefore important to pay particular attention to the construction of the buildings structure as well as individual elements of the fabric. The intense detail captured by the laser scan of the columns, pediments and high level cornicing enabled extremely detailed in-place modelling of external features. The result of which is a model suitable for use by the architects of listed building and planning applications, which would not have been possible using traditional measuring techniques.
